Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a lovely Christmas break, the children certainly seemed to have had a great time!  Despite only having three days in school, we have managed to get going really quickly this week.

In English, we have started to look at newspapers.  We have looked briefly at the front pages of them, but have now moved on to the style in which reports are written.  This is a great area for homework, as of course, newspapers are readily available online - lots of reading opportunities!  We also gave out this half-term's spellings.  Year 6 should have brought two lots home (20 in all), as we ste up preparations for (whisper it!) SATs.   Spelling tests will be on Monday again, but for this week we will be testing on Tuesday.  The children also received a personal set of spellings based on the test we did before the break.  These will be tested again before half term.

In Maths we have been rounding numbers to different accuracies (nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000), before we move on to shape and geometry next week.

We launched our new topic for this term, which is Kings and Queens and we looked at the Battle of Hastings and William the Conqueror.  Next week, we will jump forward a couple of hundred years and look at King John.

In Science we looked at different habitats and how animals have adapted to suit their environments.  In art we looked at Julian Opie's style of drawing figures, as we look at how to draw people.
