Class 1 2026 - 2027
🌟 Welcome to Class 1!
Welcome to Class 1 – a happy, busy and nurturing classroom where children are encouraged to learn, explore, play and grow together!
Class 1 is a mixed Reception and Year 1 class, providing children with a supportive and engaging environment where they can develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.
We believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, valued and excited to explore the world around them. Our classroom provides lots of opportunities for children to learn through play, practical experiences and purposeful activities, both indoors and outdoors.
👩🏫 Meet the Class 1 Team
Class Teachers: Miss Ashley and Mrs Battrick
Miss Ashley teaches Class 1 from Monday to Thursday, with Mrs Battrick teaching on Fridays.
They are supported throughout the week by our fantastic teaching assistant team.
Together, we work hard to make sure that every child feels included, supported and ready to learn.
📚 Learning in Class 1
There is always something exciting happening in Class 1!
Our Reception and Year 1 children enjoy a broad range of learning experiences, with opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence across the curriculum.
We make the most of our wonderful school grounds and outdoor environment, giving children plenty of opportunities to learn through exploration, investigation and play.
Early reading, phonics and mathematics are important parts of our day, alongside developing children's communication, creativity, physical development and independence.
🌳 Forest School
Thursday afternoons
Forest School is a special part of life in Class 1. Children have the opportunity to explore our outdoor environment and take part in a range of exciting practical activities.
These might include campfire cooking, building shelters, exploring nature and getting creative in the mud kitchen!
Please send your child to school in their school uniform and bring their Forest School kit to change into.
Don't forget an empty carrier bag for muddy wellies!
All Forest School bags and clothing should be clearly labelled with your child's name. Kits can be stored in the outdoor storage unit at the side of the classroom.
🏃 PE
Monday afternoons
PE takes place on Mondays, so children should come to school wearing their PE kit rather than their school uniform.
We also take part in the Daily Mile, so please make sure your child has a warm, waterproof coat in school every day. We love getting outside and will head outdoors whatever the weather!
🏠 Learning at Home
We really value the support families provide with learning at home.
Homework is set on Mondays and should be completed and uploaded to Class Dojo.
During the first half term, children will have a half-termly project alongside their regular spelling, reading and maths activities.
For the remainder of each term, homework will focus on spelling, reading and maths.
📖 Reading Every Day
Reading at home is an important part of your child's homework and makes a huge difference to their progress and confidence.
We encourage children to read every day, whether sharing a story with an adult, reading independently or enjoying a favourite book together.
Every time your child reads, they can earn a Class Dojo star for their Reading Rocket.
Once their rocket is complete, they can choose a small prize! 🌟
Children who read regularly at home will also be entered into our half-termly prize draw to win a new book.
📱 Stay Connected with Class Dojo

💛 Our Class 1 Community
We want Class 1 to be a place where children feel happy, confident, curious and ready to learn.
Whether they are starting their first year at school in Reception or continuing their learning journey in Year 1, we want every child to develop a strong sense of belonging and pride in themselves and their achievements.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, exploring, playing and making lots of wonderful memories together! 🌟
