Curriculum Intent
Â
Our desire at Woore Primary and Nursery School is to offer the best possible education and ambitions for our pupils in partnership with parents and the local community. We aim to nurture curiosity and creativity through an inspiring, challenging and inclusive curriculum and through our school motto, ‘Aim high, because everything is possible’.
We have designed our curriculum so that children progressively build knowledge, skills and understanding, with a clear focus on securing crucial knowledge and embedding the foundational skills they need to become successful, confident learners. We recognise that children need to develop a strong body of knowledge alongside the skills to use and apply it. Our curriculum therefore identifies the essential knowledge pupils need to remember and understand, whilst providing regular opportunities to revisit, practise and apply this knowledge so that it becomes increasingly secure and enables pupils to build upon what they have learned.
Our aim is that all children are motivated to learn and become independent, confident and resourceful individuals who are proud of their achievements and feel a sense of belonging to the school and community. Through our curriculum, we want pupils to develop a strong sense of self and belief in their future, whilst gaining the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to make a positive contribution to the wider world.
Our curriculum, which encompasses all core and foundation subjects, has been carefully designed to ensure clear coverage, progression and appropriate sequencing across our mixed-age classes. Each subject has its own distinct curriculum and carefully considered sequence of learning, ensuring that pupils develop subject-specific knowledge and skills over time. Where appropriate, meaningful links are made between subjects to enrich pupils’ understanding and provide opportunities to make connections, for example between English and History. However, subjects are taught with the integrity of their individual disciplines maintained.
Woore Primary and Nursery School provides a highly inclusive environment where all pupils are supported and challenged to achieve well from their starting points. We recognise that pupils have different needs and starting points and provide appropriate scaffolding, challenge, targeted support and opportunities to practise and apply learning. We place a strong emphasis on developing independence, resilience and confidence so that all pupils can participate fully in their learning and achieve their potential.
We actively promote learning and playing outdoors throughout the year within our extensive school grounds. Learning takes place within our dedicated Forest School area and EYFS outdoor provision, as well as across our field and playground. These spaces provide valuable opportunities for pupils to develop practical skills, independence, curiosity and a strong connection with the natural environment.
We aim to develop fond and lasting memories for all our pupils through engaging and enriching experiences. We believe our curriculum should inspire a love of learning, broaden pupils’ experiences and unlock the potential that lies within every child. By securing strong foundations, building knowledge over time and nurturing confidence and ambition, we aim to prepare all our pupils to be happy, successful and responsible citizens in the future.
